DUI: Mickoski’s rhetoric is backfiring – Albanians are uniting against humiliation
The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) has issued a strong response to Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski’s recent public statements, accusing him of promoting divisive and discriminatory rhetoric against Albanians in North Macedonia.
In its official statement, the party says that instead of focusing on promised reforms, EU integration, and economic stability, Mickoski is pushing a nationalist agenda aimed at creating “submissive Albanians – obedient, silent, and decorative.”
DUI warns that this approach echoes “the darkest days of the 1990s,” when Albanians were treated as mere statistics, not equal citizens – drawing a direct comparison between Mickoski’s rhetoric and that of Slobodan Milošević.
The party emphasizes that, contrary to the intended effect, this rhetoric is uniting Albanians. Even political opponents, they say, are coming together around a shared goal – defending the dignity and political autonomy of the Albanian community in the country.
DUI also criticizes members of the VLEN coalition, who remain in government thanks to Mickoski’s support, referring to them as “remnants” who continue to hold office at the expense of Albanian unity.
“It’s time they come out and face the people, listen to their voice – a voice that grows louder every day: enough with the humiliation! If they don’t hear it now, they will hear it in the next elections – whatever form they may take,” the statement concludes.
This reaction comes at a politically sensitive moment, as interethnic dynamics once again take center stage in both public and diplomatic discourse in North Macedonia. Flaka Media
